Here is some history...
At the Motor Show of that year the XK120 was launched, and if his cars had been good lookers first and performers afterwards he now had both in full measure. William Heynes and his team produced the new twin overhead camshaft 3,442cc 160bhp XK unit. Produced in roadster, coupe and drophead coupe forms with a little more room, rack and pinion steering was the key change, first employed on the 1951 Le Mans-winning C-type. Visually, the XK140 had stronger and more practical bumpers, a revised radiator grille with fewer but thicker slats and rear lights that incorporated flashing indicators. Power output was increased to 190bhp, carrying over from the XK120SE's specification, contemporary roadtests regularly recording top speeds nearing 130mph. Catering for the American market, the three XK140 models sold well with 8,884 examples built in three years, of which a total of only 3,354 were roadsters, nearly all - 3,281 - going to America.
