Power output was increased to 190bhp, carrying over from the XK120SE's specification, contemporary roadtests regularly recording top speeds nearing 130mph. Catering for the American market, the three XK140 models sold well with 8,884 examples built in three years, of which a total of only 3,354 were roadsters, nearly all - 3,281 - going to America.
